The Chinese Government Strategy on Deepening Population Aging
Kim Byung-Cheol

Abstract
This paper is to review the status quo of China¡¯s population aging and the governmental strategy on deepening population aging. Around the end of 2015, the population aged 65 and over was approximately 10.47% of the total population in China, but is expected to reach 14% of the aged society by 2027. China is likely to have difficulties in dealing with deepening population aging, boosted by the rapidly increasing population aging and vast population. Indeed, the national agony of population aging has been revealed in the move of the medium- and long-term national development plan. The term population aging was firstly mentioned in the 10th five-year plan while marking the beginning of population aging
prevention strategy. Later, population aging appeared as an independent clause in the 11th five-year plan, population aging was in more detail explained in the 12th five-year plan, and population aging was developed from the clause to the chapter in the 13th five-year plan. As the proportion of the population aging becomes larger in the medium- and long-term national development plan, the implementation of the measures to cope with population aging has also evolved into a stage of ¡®general¡ædetailed¡æconnective' response.
